What's your favorite drafting software for shipbuilding

I’ve been using AutoCAD for marine drafting, and while it’s great for 2D layouts, I find it lacking in 3D modeling features required for complex ship designs… I’ve heard a lot about Rhino and how it integrates well with parametric design tools. What’s everyone else using, especially when it comes to safety regulations in drafting? Any insights on specific features that are must-haves for shipbuilding?

I hear you! While AutoCAD is solid for 2D, Rhino’s flexibility with 3D modeling really shines for ship design. It’s like comparing a trusty old toolbox to a Swiss Army knife.

I’ve found that using Rhino with Grasshopper can significantly streamline complex designs, especially when considering safety features. It allows you to automate compliance checks, which can be a game changer in shipbuilding. Have you had a chance to explore parametric modeling in Rhino yet?

Rhino does offer great 3D capabilities, but be sure to check its plugins for safety compliance — have you explored any of those yet?
